Let’s talk about “trust”: reflection, digestion and creation

Bria Smith

Event: New York Peace Talks 2019
Location: Salesforce Tower
Date: 11/12/2019

An 18-year-old youth activist and a Board Member of March for Our Lives, Bria Smith, joined the New York Peace Talks. She talked about how young people in society as a collective can talk about trust. She emphasized key three points to build trust: reflection, digestion, creation. “We are having so many communities not trusting each other because we are so fragmented, so different and so divisive – because we didn’t have this conversation of what trust looks like.”

New York Peace Talks 2019. Recorded at the Salesforce Tower on December 11, 2019.

Bria Smith is an activist fighting against gun violence in inner cities and schools. After speaking out against the lack of diversity and representation in the March For Our Lives movement in 2018, Smith rapidly gained the movement's attention. She was asked to join them on their nation-wide tour to represent her community and to tell her first-hand account of growing up in a Milwaukee, where gun violence was "normalized". Smith is currently running the website "Honey For Your Tea" to elevate the stories of women of color, and continues to campaign against gun violence.
