César Díaz, award-winning filmmaker and the winner of 2019 Cannes Camera d’Or with his debut, Nuestra Madres. This film depicts the sensitive exploration of the 1980s Guatemalan civil war through the recollections of the country’s women. He shared his personal stories of encountering the victims of violence and the power of trust. In his own words, “Qu’est-ce que l’on fait avec nos morts ? Qu’est-ce que l’on fait avec notre deuil ? Comment on soigne nos blessures ? Comment on se réconcilie ? Je suis persuadé que l’on commence à regarder son histoire individuelle et que c’est à partir de cet espace que l’on atteindre le collectif, c’est en nous regardons devant ce miroir qui est le cinéma que l’on arrivera à grandir comme démocratie et comme société.”

César Díaz, the winner of 2019 Cannes Camera d’Or, is a Guatemalan filmmaker who studied in France and Belgium. Belgium has picked his film as its entry for the best international feature film category at the 2020 Oscars. Before making documentaries, he was a screenwriter and editor. His film "Nuestras Madres" was selected for the Week of the Critique of the 72nd Festival de Cannes. He depicts the sensitive exploration of the 1980's Guatemalan civil war through the recollections of the country's women.
